This Sacred Place
and you are invited to attend
In 2020, in the midst of the COVID lockdown, I was a mother to a very energetic, nap avoiding 15 month old. So much of that time is a blur to me and it is hard to believe we are six years on from that time in our lives.
I was tired.
I was anxious.
I was overwhelmed by all the demands of young motherhood and marriage.
I needed space-in a time when spaces were shut down, or there was social distancing. I needed to not be indoors. Since my husband was sent to working from home, he was able to watch Wilding for me while I took a walk.
A walk without a stroller.
I went up the hill near our tiny house, through the suburban streets, across the road and to a parcel of land I had seen on a map. There is no actual trail map, this is more of a local place. There were trails for walking and biking that meandered throughout the small acreage. But it was enough woodland for forest bathing.
Over the last 6 years I have visited these woods often bringing Wildling along with me. So many memories. As Wilding was learning to use the pedals on his mountain bike, he would pump his way around the trails while I ran along behind him, pushing myself to keep up. We have sat on a log and listened to the birdsong while we munched on our sweet treats I had tucked into my coat pockets. One Vernal day, Wilding found a huge mud puddle and delightfully laid down in it pretending to swim.
I visited this place shortly after my grandmother died and I sought a soft, gentle atmosphere to experience my grief.
I have walked along the paths, letting creative ideas bubble and solutions to challenging paintings come to the surface as well as thinking over a different approach to a mothering situation I was walking through.
Over the last 6 years I have frequented the woods through all the seasons, noting the change in paths, the wild blueberries, mullien leaves and yarrow growing in the clearing, a child fort that crops up, bike jumps dug into the soil, faery houses made from sticks and pine needles.
The woodland is a sacred place to me and I want to share it with you.
On May 31st a small group of us will walk to this woodland for the Wildcrafted Marks creative circle. It will be a time of observation, exploration and creation. We will use nature materials to express our creativity with gentle guidance from me.
No artistic experience needed; instead bring a water bottle, a snack or two and comfortable clothing.
There are only a few spots left, reserve your ticket today.
